"Sketchy, please get up and report to room 531. Repeat, Sketchy, subject 237 report to room 351." a voice spoke over the loudspeaker. Sketchy eyes slowly fluttered opened, the man pushing himself up in his bed and rubbing his eyes to help them stay open. "Looks like it's time...I wonder what they'll have me do..." he said to himself a bit nervously. Sketchy was one of many test subjects for the SCP Facility. He had signed up for the lodging when he needed it, with the cost of having to "volunteer" for a test with an item the facility found that they wanted to observe. The downside was that Sketchy didn't know what the test was going to entail, and some tests ended, well, leaving subjects as something that wouldn't be coming back out. He walked out of him room, walking down the halls of the facility. Fellow subjects watched as he walked by them, some thankful that they weren't the ones called, and others jealous that it was Sketchy being called up instead of them. Sketchy reached the door to room 531, taking a deep breath before opening it and walking inside. "Hello Sketchy, I am Doctor Marthis." a man in a lab coat, gloves and goggles spoke with hands behind his back. "I will be observing you for the process of this experiment today." "Hello Doctor Marthis." Sketchy gave a nod as he looked around for any clue as to what he may be going through. "This will be a very simple test for you. I will simply have you observe the object, and do what simply feels natural." "That...seems easy enough." Sketchy said, almost sounding too easy, which only made him a bit more nervous about what would happen. "It should be. Now, I want you to stand on the X while I prepared the experiment. Sketchy walked over, spotting the red tape on the ground in the shape of an "X." He followed the instruction, looking up to see Doctor Marthis positioning a box directly across from Sketchy. "Alright Sketchy, when I take the box off, all you have to do it focus on this object. Look into its eyes." "Alright, will do." Sketchy said with a nervous nod, taking a deep breath to try and calm his nerves. Anything could be under there. An animal, a monster? He would find out, as Doctor Marthis lifted up the box revealing something a lot less menacing than what he imagined might be underneath, at least at first glance. It was a golden cat statue. The cat was seated on all fours, ears up in an attentive appearance to them. The only part of the statue that wasn't golden was its eyes, of which were tiger-eye stones, though not glowing gave off a luminescence look. It took on a golden base that read "SCP-531-15" on it. "Wh-what is that thing...?" Sketchy questioned anxiously, wanting to look away but found it impossible no matter how hard he tried. He tried to move off the X, close his eyes, picture something else to no avail. No matter what, Sketchy couldn't break eye contact with the statue. "Don't look away." Sketchy heard a woman's words echo through his head. "Who said that? Is someone else here!?" Sketchy shouted out, unable to look for any source. "Subject appears to be hearing voices, possibly coming from SCP-531." Doctor Marthis spoke into his recorder as he observed the scene. "I'm so lonely..." the voice rang again. "But now we have each other, we'll be together forever. We don't have to be lonely ever again." "L-lonely?" Sketchy realized who, or rather, what was talking. "I lost my partner, they took him away. But you're my partner now. I need you to complete me." "I...I don't want to! Stop this!" Sketchy shouted. "I can only stop if you can tear your gaze away from it." Doctor Marthis said. "What is it telling you?" "It's clear as day, can you not hear it?" Sketchy questioned. "No one can hear me. I've been crying out for me partner for months. Only you can hear me, my partner." "She says only I can hear it because I'm her partner! I don't want to be that though!" "If you didn't want to be, you'd surely be able to tear your gaze away from those eyes." Doctor Marthis said. "Subject hears the statue's voice, statue appears to be a female according to subject." "I must leave you for now. I will be back in a day to see your progress." "A day! Take this away from me!" Sketchy said, but it was already too late, Doctor Marthis was gone, leaving the man gazing into the cat. "We're all alone now. Together. Soon you can be like me, and we can be together forever. I won't ever lose my partner again." the statue said with glee in her voice. Over the course of the night, Sketchy's body found itself slowly moving on its own, much to his dismay. He slowly knelt down, his hands going in front of him. He once towered over the cat, but now was almost on eye-level to it thanks to his sudden crouching. Parts of his body were starting to harden, his ears starting to feel a bit heavier. Not only that, his ears had moved higher up on his head, all while gaining a triangular shape to them. The shape of them start to become a bit more pointed, beginning to take on feline attributes. Parts of Sketchy's skin would harden, begin to shine the same gold that the SCP-531 statue was, slowly starting to become a statue himself. "It's much better, we can be together. It's nice to see each other eye to eye, isn't it?" "I-I guess so?" Sketchy spoke, unconfident in himself. It wasn't entirely because he was anxious, but because he wasn't freaking out nearly as much as he thought he should. He couldn't move, and his body was moving on its own, so why he feeling calm? "You don't have to worry anymore, once we're together we don't have to worry ever again." "But this isn't right...it isn't...why am I...?" Sketchy stumbled over his words. "It's okay, soon we don't need words because we will have each other." **** A few days later... "Subject has stopped responding to me entirely." Doctor Marthis spoke into his recorder. The subject is more feline than human now. They have fully taken on the same posture that SCP-531 has. Their hands have become paws and golden, as have their feet. They appear to have a golden tail now, though their torso and face still have flesh." He paused, witnessing as his eyebrows began falling off as the skin underneath it began to harden into a golden color. "Scratch that, the face has begun its transformation as well. Most of the subject's hair has fallen out, only a few remnants remain. Their ears are fully feline and golden, it seems they will be fully converted in a few days. Doctor Marthis signing out." Doctor Marthis left the room, leaving the two statues alone once more. "This feels so good...you make me feel so complete now." Sketchy said to the statue, his jaw barely able to move as he talked. "I am glad you are able to accept this. We are meant for each other. Together." "Yes...I don't know what I was so afraid of earlier. I feel so...at peace with you." "And I with you." the statue spoke back. "And soon we'll be one and the same. You will become a beautiful feline, doesn't that sound nice?" "Absolutely..." In the time between Doctor Marthis returning, Sketchy's body would practically be fully changed. His clothes had crumbled into dust on the floor, and the "X" he was once standing on had lifted up underneath it, becoming a platform underneath him. His paws were permanently melded with the platform. His skin had hardened and cooled, taking on a shiny gold color that emitted a sheen off of it. His face pushed out into a muzzle, his nose triangular at the enter of it. His mouth became sealed off, leaving the muzzle with a "3" shape to it. The whites of Sketchy's eyes would turn right, turning into jewels that matched SCP-531's, the pupils becoming thin black feline lines. His hair was all gone now, leaving Sketchy as a splitting image of the statue that stared at him. The only difference would be the inscription on his base. Instead of reading "SCP 531-15," it read "SCP-531-16." ***** A few more days later... "The subject has fully transitioned. They are now indistinguishable from the original statue. Their inscription is slightly different, and this potentially implies that the original statue was once someone else as well. The logs from previous experiments are redacted. I will move the two for safekeeping to avoid any accidental changes. The experiment was insightful, it seems that the subject enjoyed the change by the end if recordings are anything to go by. Further experimentation is needed. This is Doctor Marthis, signing off on Experiment 531 on subject 237. Final fate, an SCP-531 statue. Their living quarters will be cleaned out, transformation is likely permanent and it will not be needed to kept." The tapes cut off, and the experiment was over. This is what became of Sketchy, a golden feline statue. He was stuffed into a box along with SCP-531-15, the very thing that transformed him in the first place. He suddenly felt a detachment, a pain from not being with his partner. He needed a companion, it was his only purpose! ***** "Thank you for coming in." Doctor Marthis said as he guided in a woman. "Today you will be a part of a experiment where you will simply have to observe the object presented to you..." Doctor Marthis gave his spiel to the test subject, who unbeknownst to her, would be befalling the same fate that had happened to Sketchy. Sketchy had been inside of a box for what felt like an eternity. Not having a companion was so lonely, their partner was taken away from them and they were all alone now. He never knew if he would see her ever again, would he have a partner ever again? He hoped so, it was much nicer to have a companion. "Alright, just look into the eyes of what you see." Doctor Marthis instructed, lifting up the box, revealing a golden cat statue with the inscription "SCP-531-16" on its base. Sketchy suddenly became fully attentive, his longing for a partner had finally been quenched. She wasn't his old partner, but soon she'd be just as good, she'd be just like them, and they would be together forever! The thought of a new companion thrilled Sketchy. "Hello! It feels so good to have a companion again." Sketchy spoke telepathically to the woman, her fright oddly familiar to Sketchy, having no recollection of anything before he was with his old partner, but he would make sure it felt good for her! "Who-who said that!?" she asked nervously. "Do not worry! It is me, I've been oh so lonely lately. Cold...lonely. The last thing I saw was my partner taken away from me. I miss them, but now you're here so I can have a new one! We'll be happy together, I promise you!" "Wh-what? I don't..." "Don't question it, you'll love it! Nothing is a better feeling than having a companion, and soon we will be partners! You should crouch down so we can see each other better!" Unbeknownst to even Sketchy, his words coaxed the woman into doing so, the same way that the statue before had subconsciously changed his body. "See? Isn't that much better!" Sketchy said happily, the woman's nerves starting to calm, Sketchy infectious in more ways than just one. "It appears the changes are happening faster than previously." Doctor Marthis spoke into his recorder. "It seems each progressive statue will make the changes quicker. More research is required." Sketchy had tuned the Doctor out entirely, content on watching his new companion become just like him. It wouldn't be long until they would be perfect together!
