Subtle changes can sometimes mean a lot
little omissions from our pages
or a single word changed in the script
over and over again
until a single word disappears
from the pages of our history
and the prophecy of our future

It can all stay the same
less one meaningless word
that turns out to mean everything
like when "when" changes to "if"

"When we..." becomes "If we..."
and it all comes crumbling down

All our "when"s have changed to "if"s
and "if this..." and "if that..."
is a whole lot of "if"
when...there is no "when"

Because "if" is just another way of saying
that it's never gonna happen
it's a hopeful label
put on a dream already declared dead

But I've lost all my "when"s
and tomorrow is just another "if"
