Letters to Cripto: #25 ------------------- Dear Cripto: I know everybody says they're your biggest fan, and that it takes you a long time answering all of your fan mail (assuming you respond to all of them), but the last time I watched the news, somebody said something about you fulfilling a prophecy because CNG is dead. I thought it took all the G-52 to defeat it, not just you. Do the people still habitually give you all the glory, or was I just confused? Also, what was the hardest obstacle to overcome for you as a superhero, even though you're also a rock singer, a game show host, and a bunch of other things? I had the pleasure of seeing you in person the last time I visited Glenn View Springs, Arizona, but that was you doing the cowboy act. I didn't know you did that. I thought to myself, "Is there anything that tiger can't do?" In any case, I hope life is treating you even better than it ever was now that CNG has died. Sincerely, Jake Pollockson, age 28 (human being) Wellington, MO, USA P.S. Our city is called Wellington (population 812) because it was named after Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, British commander at the Battle of Waterloo. We're just a few miles east of a neighbor city called Napoleon, named after the French historic figure Napoleon Bonaparte. I think somebody had a sense of humor naming those two towns those names because halfway in between, there is a small unincorporated crossroads known as "Waterloo." --------------------- Cripto's reply: Dear Jake: When CNG was still around, it wanted a world without humans, but it also wanted a world without superheroes, so I'd have to say no. People haven't always given me all the glory; that's just what CNG wanted. There were times where they did that, but more often, everybody would thank the G-52s as a whole for saving the day. It really did take all of us to defeat that stuff, but I think the whole thing about the prophecy stating I was the chose ultimate savior of the universe, should it all go horribly wrong, was nothing more than acknowledging that the CNG effects placed on me, plus other supernatural effects, had literally made me the most powerful living being in the universe. I have to be careful how I answer this, because my boss (Super C) doesn't want me or any of his recruits dwelling on the past, and it's so easy to fall into that trap door. The hardest obstacle for me to overcome, therefore, was controlling them instead of letting them control me, especially when you consider the fact I have ASD (autism spectrum disorder), and I was unconsciously wanting to draw attention to myself. The most obvious way of doing that was when I'd pull all that money out of thin air. The only time I did it in public, though, was when natural or terrorism-related disasters required massive clean-up and repair, but I'd give enough money to a country to retire them out of a national debt 50 to 500 times over; that's where the problem lied. (NOTE: I gave 800 million Euro to be split equally among all nations that belong to the EU and use that.) However, CNG took that ability away from me; thank goodness. I also became 100% immune to it later on. As for my cowboy act, that was originally created because I had to pretend to be somebody else (the Righteous Outlaw to be exact) for one mission. People liked it so much, it became a regular feature of my duties; as a result, I have the cowboy alter-ego "Licky Nicky" (named after a legendary hero of GVS from the real Wild West period of the late 1800s). Hope that helps; thank you for writing to me, and thank you for the trivia. I don't have the time to respond to all my fan mail individually, but I do read everything I receive. I therefore want to say a special thank you to the fans like you for your support, and for sticking with us throughout the whole CNG crisis. Now that the stuff is gone for good, it will be so much easier to rock with everybody. Yours truly, Nathan Knight, a.k.a.
