CHARACTER DATAFILE (ID 14720 Alpha Clearance) NAME: Roy Calbeck GAME SYSTEM OF ORIGIN: BATTLETECH IN-GAME AFFILIATION: Eridani Light Horse, Colonel (formerly Sergeant) RACE: formerly Human, currently Unicorn (anthro) AGE: 42 GENDER: Male HEIGHT: 6' 1" / WEIGHT: 220 lbs / BUILD: Stocky COLORATION: Blond-brown mane and tail, white bodyhair, dark blue eyes, silver horn STANDARD CLOTHING: Modification of Eridani Light Horse standard tank crewman uniform (see enclosed file photo). Consists of ballistic protective vest (w/grassland camo design), long-sleeved undershirt (sleeves rolled to biceps), heavy-duty black synthleather pants, and ceramosteel-plated boots. This last can be considered a substantial close combat weapon, when combined with subject's well-honed spin kick. ACCESSORIES: None. POWERS LIVING BATTERY: Subject is able to both absorb and discharge energy of all types at will. Limit unknown. E=MC2: Subject is capable of using stored energy to create physical objects, with severe limitations. The energy-to-matter ratio is extremely high --- absorbing a tactical nuclear explosion might, for example, allow subject to create a Volvo. Also, formed objects must be something subject can fully visualize down to every individual part and its proper placement. ABILITIES MARTIAL ARTS (Expert): Brawler, with several surprise moves taken from Jui Jitsu, Kara-te and Tai Chi Chu'an. BATTLETECH TANKER (Expert): Has a preference for the Pegasus Scout Tank. Highly rated in anti-'Mech tactics and command qualities. ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION (Legendary): Self-explanatory. BACKGROUND Roy Calbeck is the sole survivor of the 71st Light Horse Regiment of the Eridani Light Horse mercenary unit, which was wiped out in 3052 on the planet Orkney in battles with Clan Jade Falcon. Hurricane weather conditions prevented DropShip ascension, forcing the 71st into a holding action intended to protect other Eridani units. With older, unrefitted 'Mechs and tanks as their inventory, and unable to use its advantages in operational manuevering tactics, the 71st was overrun after six hours of intense combat. The Falcons, weakened from battling the 71st, were eventually repulsed by elements of the 151st Light Horse Regiment in the second line of fortifications even as the hurricane died away. Angered by their loss, the Falcons withdrew only to wantonly slaughter any wounded or noncombatant ELH personnel they found in the 71st's area of operations. This included a MASH unit guarded by Calbeck's single Pegasus tank platoon. Despite a courageous defense, wherein three of five Falcon light 'Mechs were destroyed, the result was inevitable. After salvage and rescue operations had completed, the remnants of the ELH retreated offworld and returned to a reserve position on the Lyran front. Calbeck, as the solitary survivor from the 71st, was promoted to Major and given indefinite leave to sort himself out. In shock over the loss of his regiment --- his family, actually, for the previous twenty years --- Calbeck walked into a bar and attempted to drink himself to death in a three-day binge. On the third day, nearly comatose and close to internal organ failure, something in his subconscious that would not die reached out across the multiverse and found a nexus of magical energy surrounding a place known as "The Past and Future Inn". The subconscious was unable to draw the energy back into the non-magical Battletech universe, but it could --- and did --- allow that energy to pull Calbeck out of his universe and into the nexus. On arrival at the PFI, Calbeck subconsciously assumed the form of an anthropomorphic unicorn, adopting the image of his unit mascot. In this form, he was slowly able to detoxify the alcohol in his system. On the other hand, he DID appear in the middle of a bar brawl and had the temerity to throw up on a dragon mage... Ever since then, Roy Calbeck has been taking advantage of his indefinite leave to "surf the multiverse", occasionally looking for technology which might help the ELH "back home". Roy's "home away from home" has been FurryMuck for about ten years now, although he has been known to range from nexus to nexus whenever the mood strikes him. INFLATION During a New Year's Eve party some years ago, Roy was relaxing in a friend's hot tub. Unknown to him, the bubbles in the tub were semi-sentient, symbiotic, and apparently rather taken with his body chemistry. Shortly, Roy's body chemistry was rather taken with the symbiote, which directly wove itself into his DNA. As a result, Roy is now inflatable, and actually rather enjoys it, though he restricts his intake to normal air and helium. His cellular structure throughout is now at least partly bubble-based, allowing him to stretch like a balloon when internal pressure is applied. He is also capable of blowing bubbles, either from his muzzle or horn, the latter of which is hollow with a very small hole at the end (through which he can actually be inflated as well). He can control the size, shape, and tensile strength of the bubbles, as well as direct them mentally as though by remote.
