Name: Marius Rutilus Pugio
Appearance:
Marius Rutilus Pugio is a gray wolf and a third generation immigrant to Rome. He works with construction and maintaining of buildings.
His father just arrange for him to be patronned by an old client of his, Scipio Iulia Crassas, who was impressed with his fathers skills. Scipio Iulia Crassas is a round and aged horse, who has build his family up by wisely investing the booty he gained as an officer in the Punic War against mighty Carthage. Among his investments are several unsafe and collapsing Insulae in the heart of Rome. Modest real-estate, but the rent is proving lucrative. Crassas has charged Marius to repair one of these tenements, and collect the rent; in exchange Marius is given a very modest stipend for materials and a tiny portion of the rent collected. If Marius does well, Scipio has promised to put him in charge of larger projects, and eventual materials to start his own business.
The building that is given to Marius is an vermin ridden, half rotted fire trap nearly ready to fall over. Marius has his work cut out for him; and is looking to spend what small stipend he has on some workmen. There are many unskilled laborers, mostly the sons of farmers who had to sell their farms to feed their families while they were fighting the Punic War; now their children are desperate for work.
There are now rumors circulating that Carthage is buckling under the tribute demanded of them by Rome; and the Hannibal, son of the famous Hamilcar, is fermenting a great deal of turmoil in Carthage.
