Bandit had just arrived at one of his pit stops. He was traveling across the country, seeing what sights there were to be seen and what interesting characters awaited in each town he had planned out. This particular stop was of special interest to the coyote. It was said that there was something special about it, but no one would ever say what it was. It was like a mystery to be solved, and Bandit was curious about what was going on in the town. When he did, he stopped at the local town welcome center to gain some new information about it. Upon entering, he was greeted by a badger man sitting behind a counter. "Hello, and welcome to Dynamic Springs! What brings you here?" "Hello...Daryl." the coyote said reading the name plate on the counter. "Truth be told, I heard there's something special about that town but no one says what and I wanted to find out what that is." "Oh, it's not so much people being secretive as it is they change before they can answer the question!" Daryl responded casually. "Change...like, they changed their mind?" Bandit raised an eyebrow. "No, I mean that literally!" the badger chuckled. "It's called Dynamic Springs because it's always changing! One day it looks like this, another it might be a town that's entirely a beach or a western-era city!" "A town that...changes? Excuse the skepticism but that's a little hard to believe." "Stay a while and when the reality wave hits you'll see! Anyone in the town when it comes by will change! Any kind of change is possible, might remember who you used to be, might not. Might stay animate, or you might end up as a candle or something. But you'll always change when a reality wave hits so long as you ain't broken!" "And everyone is just...okay with that? Changing into potentially an entirely different person?" "It's fun! Makes you appreciate life a bit more because you never know when you might get erased for someone else. I've grown up here my whole life, least I think I have and have been a lot of people! Young, old, one time I was a tree. Almost got chopped down before the wave hit and I became a bird that got to fly away. Now I work here! I have this special badge that prevents me from changing in the middle of explaining. This building is a bit of a safe zone. The reality wave doesn't come through here, but if I'm at home who knows, might end up as a TV or a cockroach or something like that!" "That's...a lot to take in." Bandit understood everything, but it wasn't what he expected to discover when he came into town. "Well, it might be interesting to experience a reality wave or two. I did start my trip with the intention to see the world." "Great! Who knows, maybe I'll see you out there on my break!" Daryl chuckled. "Enjoy Dynamic Springs!" The coyote thanked the badger for the information as he left the building and walked outside. Outside of this apparent reality wave that traveled through the town, nothing else about it seemed out of the ordinary. Part of him wondered if the badger was even telling the truth or if he was just building up a myth that wasn't actually real. However, he noticed a strange ripple in the sky, and it was rapidly approaching. Was that the reality wave that Daryl had talked about? He would quickly get his answers as it shot across the land, and as it passed through Bandit his body changed in an instant. The coyote instantly fell onto all fours as his body started to shrink down. His gray fur turned a light brown color with his tail becoming thinner. His hands would lose their ability to spread with his thumb vanishing, Bandit's hands becoming identical to his paws. He remained a canine, albeit a different one. His muzzle was longer and thinner, with legs just as long. His arms became the same length as his legs, though his hind legs were stronger and larger at the hips. Bandit was no longer an anthropomorphic coyote, but a feral greyhound. The entire town was different as well. Looking around, Bandit noticed that he wasn't the only one who got turned into a dog, but everyone else had! The buildings were all gone, traded off for toys lying all over the place - many of which were likely people before and weren't lucky enough to remain animate. Some of the dogs were looking at their bodies curiously, while others were running around like they were always dogs. Bandit sat on his hind legs, looking down at his body and going back down onto all fours to try and get a better look at his body. He had to hold back the instinct to chase his tail, but it was an instinct he failed to resist and started running around in circles. The reality wave had no set times when it occurred. Sometimes it would be minutes, other times it would be entire weeks. But this time, it seemed reality wave wasn't going to leave Dynamic Springs as a dog park for long as another wave came through as all the dogs transformed again. Bandit would remain an animal, but would no longer be constricted to four legs. His body rose up onto his his hind legs while feathers began to replace the fur all over his body. His muzzle turned into a beak as his ears shrank into his head. His arms turned into wings while his paws turned into avian talons. His already small body shrank even further, the coyote turned greyhound now a simple pigeon. This time, his mind would not remain inside of his head. His mind was becoming smaller, harder to focus and form coherent thoughts. He wasn't unaware of his old form, but the instincts of his new avian body were much stronger that he was more of a spectator in his body than anything. He flew off, flying all over town, landing in various places and eating whatever food he could find, pecking and it and enjoying it before flying off. It was a while before the next reality wave hit, Bandit was stuck as a bird for a few weeks before another reality wave traveled through the town while the pigeon was perched on a bench. The bird grew back into a proper person, and surprisingly, it was back into a coyote! He looked down at his body, seeing that Bandit was back in the body he had entered Dynamic Springs in. "Wow, that was...an experience!" Bandit chuckled to himself. As interesting as it was being animals, he was content with being back in his original body. He understood what made Dymanic Springs special, but he was ready to leave and continue on his journey. After all, he had lost a few weeks of traveling after being a bird for so long. The coyote made his way to the outskirts, taking one final look back at Dynamic Springs before leaving to continue his adventures. However, he noticed something coming up over the horizon. The reality wave was blowing through. Bandit quickly turned in an attempt to leave the town before it hit him, and the coyote failed to leave before the reality wave passed him by, subject to another transformation Bandit's body rapidly shrank down, yet again going onto all fours. However, his body became as small as it had ever been since he got into Dynamic Springs and even in his own regular life. The coyote's form had become as big as a fingernail. His tail enlarged, rounding out into a cylinder that was the thickest part of his entire body. Bandit's torso would become segmented, altering and turning cylindrical too unlike what his tail had. It became the smaller part of his body, with his legs closer to the base of this segment and his arms closer to the front. Bandit's arms and legs both became significantly thinner, now barely thicker than a strand of hair. The hands and feet both became flat and lost all but two digits, forming into "V" shapes. Like his body, his legs became segmented. With hind legs and legs at the front, a growing sensation quickly formed between the two as an entirely new pair of legs formed, Bandit now possessing six legs instead of just four. The last to change was Bandit's head. His muzzle shrank down as it flattened onto his face. The shape of Bandit's heard became much more circular, matching the oval shape of each segment of his body. His ears became much thinner as they folded in half, thinking into antennas that were as long as his head. Bandit's nose shrank into his face, leaving entirely as he lost his nose entirely, smoothing out as if he never had one in the first place. His eyes spread to each side of his head, though were pretty much invisible to the naked eye with how small his body was. With that, Bandit was fully transformed, no longer a coyote but a simple ant. And he wasn't just a simple species, he would become simple-minded. His mind was getting cloudy as his thoughts slowed to a crawl. It wasn't unlike when he transformed into a pigeon, only this time he would retain nothing of his old self. He forgot all about being a coyote. He had the instincts of an ant take over, and he had no concept of anything but raw animal instincts. Dynamic Springs meant nothing to the new ant, nor did any words mean anything. He was indistinguishable from any other ant. And that ant began to crawl around aimlessly. There was no queen for Bandit to obey, so he skittered around until he found some sort of idea of what to do. This ant's journey lead him outside of Dynamic Springs, the ant wandering out into the wide world. This would permanently lock Bandit's fate in place. The ant traversed far away from Dynamic Springs, and because of that Bandit would not be hit by another reality wave to potentially save him from his insect fate. Instead, Bandit wandered around, hoping to not get stepped on by a passerby who wasn't looking down (or by someone who noticed him where he wasn't supposed to be. The ant implied wandered around, finding a home around behind an old dinner where there would be scraps he could reach next to the dumpster that fell out when it overflowed. And that was the life of Bandit. There was no hope of ever turning back into a coyote, or something even on two legs in the first place. His new home was far away from the reality waves, granted, the idea of transforming was one that the ant couldn't even register. All it could do was move around, eat, and sleep. And that was how he spent his days. Bandit was lucky to avoid getting squashed, his instincts fairly good at that. There were a few close calls when the ant felt adventures into the dinner itself to pick up crumbs, generally only entering when it was closed since it wasn't noisy and it didn't scare the ant off. Bandit was just one of the many who were affected by Dynamic Springs. Even if the ant had managed to somehow return, he was locked in the form of an ant. If someone was halfway out of the city and the reality wave hit, it would mess up the workings of someone and their forms wouldn't be affected by the reality wave again. Some people would try to accomplish this and gamble on getting locked into a form they enjoyed, which sometimes worked out and other times would make someone permanently an object. In very rare cases, this was unintentional like Bandit's case, thought the ant had no issues with that since he didn't even have a big enough mind to care! He was just a mindless ant now, and that's all he'd ever be again.
