This is a story about a pony named Courage. a strong, and fateful Pegasus pony, enlisted in the royal guards as a Captain. My Job is mostly managing the shifts and placement of the guards. Princess Celestia personally picked me to command her guards, as she trust me to protect her, and the pony's of Equestria. I took an oath, that I will do everything in my power to fight off any evils even giving my life, if it will save others.

I train the royal guard to be extremely serious, and to stand tall. they never move unless ordered, or to bring back order from chaos. But I'm not a whip and chain commander. I am friendly and even greet each guard with a smile, I only ask that they stay serious when on duty. I have learned that yelling, and beating your new recruits, only make them hate you. But if you become their friend, and be a leader for them to follow, they will love you, and do anything you ask out of respect.

I am a well build Pegasus with a white coat and red eyes. what sets me apart from the other royal guards is that with the same armor I have a few added plates. I have four bracers on my legs, showing my rank over the other guards, also the Roman galea i wear is red, not the blue as the other wear, so I can be picked out quickly as the leader. when needed, I will wear a red dress cape that covers my body, with gold locks around my neck to events, and parties.

my cutie mark is a gold shield,  I always knew that I was born to protect the pony's of this world. I can still remember when i got it.


I lived in Ponyville all my life, until I became a guard. I was very young, school was just let out, and all the foals was playing. I was playing tag with a few of the others when some of the kids wanted to play in the Everfree Forest as a dare. "I bet your to chicken to go into the Everfree Forest" one colt said.  "I ain't scared of nothing!" a filly said. We all stopped playing trying to hear what they were fighting about.

I didn't know the colts, but the filly was Applejack, we studied together sometimes, and played when school was over. "prove it! go in the Everfree Forest, and stay their to it's night time! if your not a chicken!" Applejack:"I'm no chicken! nothing in their, but trees is all."

Applejack and all the other foals walked to the edge of the Forest. the group that made the bet stand just outside were the trees start. "go on then, if your not scared."    Applejack:"i don't see y'all getting any closer!" they all was just standing their, not wanting to go in, but not wanting to back down.

I walked over to Applejack. Courage:"you don't have to go in.. I mean it's just a silly bet."   Applejack whispered to me:"ya, but I just can't run away.  Would you go in with me? So I'm not all lonesome and such." I looked at the forest and gulped, but I couldn't let Applejack go in alone. I agreed. "I'll stay with you no matter what." Applejack was glad  to hear me say that, and it build up her confidence to know that I'll stay with her.

Applejack smiled and yelled:"Well lets go y'all, times a wasting standing here!" Applejack walked in proudly, with me beside her. The others in the group walked in with us, trying to act cool, but stayed behind us.

It was scary! their was not much light at all, but lots of fog. we walked around, close together eyes and ears wide open.   Their was a crash! some yelled and ran back out of the Forest. Applejack:"it was only a little branch braking off a tree is all." most ran anyway. all was left was the two colts that made the bet, Applejack, and I.

we didn't go in the Forest very deep, so that if needed we can run back out. we found a opening and we made camp. the boys was still scared and jumped at every  noise. applejack, and I tried to act cool, but we were scared on the inside. as time passed it got dark.

Applejack:"it's getting late we should go." I nodded. it was late, I wanted to go home.

then something moved! we all froze in place, not knowing what or who it was...  we looked at the bush that was moving.... scary noises and  growling came from it! then we saw it! it jumped out and landed a few feet away from us. it was a big wolf!

the wolf was all black with messy hair! the boys and i ran screaming, then i looked back to see Applejack still frozen. Courage:"APPLEJACK RUN!" she didn't move, shaking. looking the monster in the eyes. I wanted to run but I promise I would stay with her.

The wolf moved in mouth open to bite her! I grabbed a rock and pinged it off the wolfs head. Courage:"LEAVE HER ALONE!" The wolf looked at me, showing his deadly looking teeth. growling it jumped at me ready to bite. i jumped to the side just missing his teeth, and kicked with all I could to his face. he yelped backing up and in a daze from the kick. the wolf with an eye closed, he growled, and charged at me. I didn't know what to do, I tried to run but he pinned me down with his paws. he moved in, this time he was not going to miss.

he yelped in pain, no longer on top of me. applejack kicked him in the rips, sending him flying. he got up limping, and ran back into the forest, not wanting anything more to do with us. Applejack:"YOU BETTER RUN!" she smiled and stomped the ground. "are you ok Courage?"

I nodded. Applejack helped me up and we walked out of the Everfree Forest. applejack:"well that wasn't as bad as they made it out to be."    "Ya, on till the wolf came, and you froze up." i said poking her in the side. applejack:"I wasn't froze up, I was just.."  she stopped and whispered "Thanks Courage, for going in with me, and helpen me in fighting off that wolf."   I smiled "It was no problem, I said I would stay with you, no matter what."

Applejack:"Just don't be going around telling everyone i said so, or I'll send you flying with the wolf as well." we both laugh.   Applejack looked at me:"Courage! look their at your flank!" i looked back and gasped. i got my cutie mark! then it hit me what I am to do, I'm a brave pony, willing to protect anyone in need!

I jumped with joy! applejack:"you lucky pony you, I wish I would get mine as well." Courage:"thanks! you'll get yours as well, i know it." Applejack:"ya but i don't thank i will around here, I'm going to move to Menehattan with some kinfolk  that live their." I got sad hearing she was moving, she talked about it before, but i always just hope she was joking. I didn't want her to move away.

"do you have to go?" i said head lowered in sadness.   Applejack:"Ya I do, I'll write to you everyday when I can. maybe someday you can come and see me?" Courage:"that sounds great."

we walked all the way back to her farm were she hugged me bye. I flew up into the sky looking back at applejack waving. I hope she finds what shes is looking for in Menehattan, and writes to be when she does.
