Unlike the human events, these events did allow a substitute in case of injury, and the fifth gymnast was allowed to attempt to qualify for individuals, whether they made it or not. Thus, the rosters below each will still have five members in total; the last member of each team is the substitute, but they did not receive a medal for the team event. Any medals they won came from their individual events if they qualified for it and reached the finals. For some countries, it was by coincidence that the rosters were exactly the same as Rio, but with some of the gymnasts retiring after this Olympic go-round, new faces will pop up in Paris in 2024. The special guests were the G-52s and a select number of allies, including President Leo Zanicchi and his administration (and all his parallels except Leonid the Cold Lion of Russia), the G-52 Marching Band, the G-52 Drum and Bugle Corps, the U.S. Coyote Drum and Bugle Corps, and the U.S. Lion Corps Band. All the musicians played in the opening ceremonies. The FOG does not have a closing ceremony, however; this is to allow the athletes for safer travel home faster. (This is also why they were delayed one year.) These units also played all the national anthems for various events live; otherwise, recordings were used. During a weather delay for the HOG, the G-52s and their allies traveled to Kyoto to visit Nintendo's HQ building. Nintendo gave the visitors gifts in the form of special playing cards (given the company's history began in 1889 as a playing card company), instructions on how to play certain games with those cards, and toy figurines of Nintendo characters such as Mario, Donkey Kong, Princess Peach, Princess Zelda, Link, Fox McCloud, and all associated thereof. (The group did not visit SEGA's HQ, but SEGA did mail each one similar gifts in order to include toy figurines of Sonic the Hedgehog and company, whom Leo likes to call the "SEGA Squadron.") --------- Winning the medals they won solidified Julie Styles of the USA and Andy Percy of Great Britain as the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time); Styles is often said to be the Simone Biles of the animal kingdom, while Percy is often said (by British media) to be the Kōhei Uchimura of the animal kingdom. Both humans mentioned are also considered the G.O.A.T. in their sport. Styles and Percy got to talk to their families hosting watch parties, though, courtesy of Microsoft Teams. "It's so weird to be doing this in an empty setting," Styles told the press, "but safety is more important than anything considering how unpredictable CNG is. Thankfully, it didn't affect the outcome of the competition, if it did; I probably wouldn't have the medals I have right now." "I feel it was a bit hit and miss," Percy said. "We had team members winning different medals than in Wildcat City in 2016, and I say Wildcat City because, as you'll recall, they did the FOG instead of Rio due to terrorist strikes disrupting the Games down there, and the scandal of the Monogolians so angry over a bronze medal wrestling match, they turn the joint into a strip club. I don't blame President Zannichi for losing his temper at the time. Luckily, he didn't here. Anyways, this time we were able to do it in the same city, and we're proud to be representing our nations the way we are. Props to the Americans and Australians for putting up a good fight; we really had to work for it to win the gold we won in the team event, and in the individual events." Styles and Percy are retiring from the sport after this Olympic Games, but hope to continue to have some involvement in the sport (possibly as commentators for the networks who broadcast the sport). This year's FOG marked the first time any nation has swept the podium and taken home all three colors (gold, silver, bronze). The Americans did this in women's uneven bars, and the British did this in men's rings. Appropriately, the gold went to both gymnasts hailed as the G.O.A.T. ---------- Notably, Cripto was not among the G-52s watching the HOG and FOG in person; instead, he and his rock band, Furry Fury, did a tour of parts of the US (but nowhere else, and not a full tour) to encourage his fanbase to stay home, due to the travel bans President Zannichi had place. This was also attempt to distract any CNG smugglers from trying to leave the country, because of news reports that Russian CNG smugglers were still entering Japan. To make up for it, though, the concerts doubled as watch parties for the HOG; when the humans won a gold for the U.S., the band would launch into a song requested by the fans (although never the national anthem because Cripto considers that way too sacred to be touched, and says only military and marching bands should play that). Although Furry Fury works hard to write original music, what they can't seem to figure out is why their biggest success comes when they cover a video game song. The fans at the watch parties requested video game songs because of this, mainly Sonic music. ------------- The marching units still in Wildcat City (such as Black Wolf Troop 222, Dark Wolf's famous marcing band, and the royal ensembles of the four Forsythian monarchs) played the national anthem every time the U.S. won a gold. ------------- NEWS UPDATE COMPLETE
