General Background: -Selena was born into an average family and immediately got into her love of research and magic. -Whenever she becomes interested in something, Selena will obesrve and often take notes on the subject, even if said subject is a person. -She is also a massive geek and otaku. -From a young age her parents considered her a prodigy. This title has continued throughout her life and she will occasionally refer to herself as such. -Selena went to a good magic school and ended up graduating top of her class, though how far the degree is actually taking her is rather questionable. -When she got back from school she discovered her parents had been among those killed by monsters while she was away. She was shaken from this, but not broken, and is determined to live up to her title as magic prodigy. -Selena generally can't stand doing anything athletic. Partly becuase she is not particularly strong, but also because her being topheavy means she can easily get some back problems. -Selena is very confident, and sometimes comes off as a bit prideful, but she tries her best to live up to her words rather than just blow smoke. She can also be quite stubborn at times. -Selena is about even between being a leader and a follower. She doesn't hesitate to use her powers to assist a cause she believes in, but if people are having trouble getting organized she will quickly step up and try to use her skills to get everything stablized. -Selena is very open-minded, more likely to be amused by seemingly impossible things rather than blowing them off as stupid. She is not immune to using Occam's Razor, but she will not immediately dismiss seemingly impossible suggestions either (rather keep them in mind while working with the more reasonable ideas). -Selena is surprisingly idealistic. She truly thinks people are capable of great things due to the impressive things she has seen them achieve, and feels that just disregarding that possiblity would be a waste. -At the same time, Selena is not stupid, and will consider if a situation is likely to have a less-than-stellar resolution or the people involved can't be relied upon. Anima Magic: -Selena's specialty magic is in thunder, wind, ice, and fire. Other famous elements like earth might be part of her repitoire, but if they are she never uses them. -Her personal favorites are fire and thunder, due to liking to show off bright and flashy spells, but she doesn't favor any more than the other in terms of practical use. If a situation calls for ice or wind, she won't think twice about using them. -While Selena herself has no innate weaknesses or resistances, darkness-based magic has a tactical advantage over her anima spells, making it easy to land hits on her. Only her highest-level spells are capable of getting around this. -On the opposite end, Selena's magic will have an easy time getting the edge over light-based magic. -Selena's magic is generally to be portrayed as element bending, and can user her lower level spells without anything other than her words and mind. Her higher-level spells require magic books. -Selena's spells are all cast using a language incomprehensible to others. She herself simply refers to it as "The Ancient Language". If portrayed it will most likely look like the "Galldr" font from the Tellius saga in Fire Emblem. -Selena's spells are clearly able to discriminate between friend and foe. Her spells cannot be turned on her or her allies. -Selena's Limit Break-type spell is Starlight, using the element Plasma from the stars themselves. She admits it is not the most powerful spell she could've researched, but she chose it because it pierces any buffs, barriers, or special effects the target might have. Equipment: -Selena is always wearing glasses, and generally has multiple pairs with her. She is not completely blind without them, but would have trouble with anything requiring precision. If she just needs to blow things up, she most likely won't have problems. -Selena often carries around books, generally of the magic, research, or note variety. This is the closest thing she has to a weapon on her, as smacking the enemy with a book is generally her best weapon choice. As noted, she requires books for her spells. -In settings with good technology, Selena will still prefer magic but also be fascinated by technology. In settings with no magic whatsoever, Selena will be into things that emulate magic. Fighting Style: -Selena is a standard wizard in that she uses very powerful skills to defeat opponents quickly. Her training and studies give her a rather standard personal combat style, and her immense skill and magic power handles the rest. -That said, Selena does not hesitate to mix things up now and then, especially since strange and unusual fighing styles are also things she can become interested in and study, which of course pushes her massive curiosity, getting her to try new tactics now and then. -Selena can and will quickly switch between various elements to throw off her foes or otherwise keep them on the defensive so that she can find an opening more easily. -In terms of defenses, Selena can only really make elemental barriers. They can still be nice (such as walls of ice to block intense heat), but she is not a support mage. -Upon casting spells from her books, the text for the spell vanishes, forcing her to limit use of her most powerful spells. She can easily pen new ones or replace particularly common ones, but this is the primary reason her biggest spells are not used to open and immediately end fights whenever she can help it. -If forced to fight physically, Selena will smack opponents with her books or give a kick to try and disorient them before blasting them with something close-range.
