*In the midst of the big battle of Soverngarde, in at least one version of it, despite the Dragonborn's best efforts, he dies in battle; losing to Alduin. The other three that assisted him are destroyed, as well.*

*After the battle, a mysterious letter appears...and Alduin opens it...the letter says below, as follows...*

To Alduin.

 If you're reading this, then congragulations; you bested the Dragonborn; even WITH him using the "Dragonrend" shout! Although before you decide to destroy the world, let us ask you this.

 Will you destroy the world, or would you rather spare it, so you can join into SMASH?!?
